This year marks the centenary of W.S. Graham, Somewhat overlooked in his lifetime, W.S. Graham has been championed by many writers since his death in 1986, not least of which was Harold Pinter (‘I found his language magical’). Graham has a special connection with the Scottish Poetry Library as we have possession of the desk he wrote at, the ‘Untidy Dreadful Table’ of his poem of that name. His work is marked by the difficulty of communication, the importance of community, and the need for humour.

Reading poems about and by W.S. Graham on the night will be:

Alan Gillis

Jackie Kay

Nuala Watt

(With one more poet to be confirmed).

Rosalind Mudaliar, Graham's daughter and literary executor, will be in attendance to donate Graham's chair to the SPL.

The SPL is fully accessible, with a ground-floor entrance and a lift that accesses all three floors. There is one adapted toilet on the basement floor. Guide and hearing dogs are welcome. A portable audio loop is available for single user; if you need a multi-user loops system, please let us know as far as possible in advance.
