Exponents of Scotland's most ancient and contemporary instruments, the Clarsach (Scottish harp) and acoustic guitar, trad duo Rachel Hair and Ron Jappy personify a special chemistry; a subtle yin-yang between spine-tingling clarity and virtuosic drive, the perfect synthesis of the modern and the traditional.
Influenced by Hair’s upbringing in the Highland village of Ullapool, and Jappy’s North-East roots, together they combine their passion for traditional music with a repertoire rich in melodies old and new. With crisp Strathspeys and heartfelt airs,to virtuosic reels and driving jigs, Rachel and Ron have combined their influences to embrace the rich cultural tradition in Scotland, while adding it to the modern compositions of the new age.
As individual award-nominated musicians, their inspiration spreads far and wide across the
globe, having racked up performances throughout Africa, Asia, Europe and North America, and sell-out shows at the Celtic Connections festival. Hair stands at the forefront in today's Celtic harp revival and is unique in placing Scotland's oldest instrument at the helm of her music, performing, teaching and promoting it worldwide.
As a pairing, they tailor each performance to the needs of their audience, no corner will go
untouched by their rootsy charm. With a back catalogue of both solo and band projects, their
eagerly waited debut duo album is out soon.
