RootsBase Presents | Charlotte Marshall & The 45s
Tue 30 Apr
Doors Open 6:30pm
Show Starts 7:30pm
Since her beginnings as a waitress in a cabaret hotel, songwriter and singer Charlotte Marshall has been influenced by the troubadours who passed through her early musical career.
Charlotte grew up sifting through her parents' LPs, working her way slowly outwards from an inherent love of the blues, and gradually building what has become the steadfast soundtrack to her life as an independent musician.
Charlotte achieved a Bachelor of Contemporary Music in her native Australia, but her irresistible stage energy took her to bigger things; writing, arranging and performing with various line-ups at a long line of prestigious venues and festivals. Since settling in Scotland her musical career has taken off and Charlotte has become a well known figure on the Scottish music circuit.
Her new seven-piece groove band, featuring some of Scotland’s most talented musicians, brings a distinctive flavour of retro to the roots scene.
Drawn from the musical traditions of New Orleans funk, Mississippi blues and 60s jazz, soul and R&B classics, Marshall’s blistering originals and re-funked covers are an assortment of sounds which move through genres with a fusion of old and new.
Named as Future of the Blues in 2015 by Blues Magazine, Charlotte Marshall and the 45s have
gone from strength to strength making TV and radio appearances, performing all over the country including jazz festivals in Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Islay, the Edinburgh Fringe as well as a series of successful prestigious gigs in Charlotte’s adopted hometown of Glasgow. Her latest EP, Bootleg Liquor”, was released in the summer.
In an explosion of modern sound, delivered both musically and lyrically with flair and sardonic
wit, Charlotte Marshall and the 45s are set to make an indelible mark on the blues and roots scene and their scorching live show leaves a dedicated following begging for more.
